My first copy of PSE
I found an old mail folder with my shopping from 1999 - and there was my first order for Photoshop Elements, not long (I think) after its release. The price was £69.99, which I understand equates to around £96 today.
And today's price for PSE 11 on Amazon UK is £59.99.
And I don't think PSE 1 was up to much (though I can't really remember).
What very good value today's PP software is, at least in my opinion.

Re: My first copy of PSE
I recall that's exactly what I paid for my first copy (which was PSE6).
Cheers,

Re: My first copy of PSE
Dave,
I agree, I have PSE9 and I think it a cracking program.
I can't remember how much I paid, but it was around the £59.99 figure you quote.

Re: My first copy of PSE
I got my first copy of PSE (don't remember which number it was) when I purchased an Olympus C5050Z P&S camera sometime in the mid 1990's. It was a full copy, not a trial copy like the versions provided these days.
I purchased PSE-10 at COSTCO (a USA membership store) on sale for $50 U.S. Dollars and later purchased a full version of PS CS6 for $250 during a very short lived sale (for persons who were regstered owners of PSE). Believe it or not, I like both these programs and will sometimes use one and other times use the other. If I had to make a choice between them, I'd choose PS CS6 but, since I have both programs I use whichever is easiest and quickest for me. There are somethings automated with PSE-10 that I like, like making a photo collage such as this one which I assembled very quickly and automatically while I was preparing to leave for a dog rescue event...
