    More Razorbill Auks

As I wrote in a previous post, these birds are not suppose to be in Florida. This winter they are all over on both the Atlantic side and the Gulf side. They are about as close to Penguins as it gets in Florida. C&C welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

    Hi Joe,

#3 is the stand out for me in this series because of the unusual action, but of course, they're all better than good.

    Cheers,

Hello Dave... Happy New Year. In #3 the bird was cruising around looking for a fish to dive for. I like it also.

Hi Joe. More great shots - though the top shot for me is #4 because of the story it tells.

The arrival of these razorbills on both coasts seems to be all over some birding forums. Does anyone know why they have arrived? I've not heard of any north to south storms, but something must have shifted them.

Hello Dave, nobody really knows. There have been two possible reasons talked about. Hurrincane Sandy went up the coast making landfall in New Jersey. It was thought this may have shifted them southward. Another thought was not enough food where they normally feed moved them southward. Also that so many young birds this year may be too many for where they normally winter. The worry is that they may not be able to find their way back north where they summer. All that I photographed were young birds not having the white stripe on the bill of an adult bird.

    Beautiful lookers for sure.

Excellent start to the new year and a good omen for the rest of it.
