Beach Shot - Longish Exposure

Experimenting with longer exposures and panning (intentional camera movement) on a visit to the beach last weekend. Other shots had more color banding but this one caught my eye and I was hoping to get some input from you folks. C&C welcome and appreciated.



As a side note, it was my first time using the camera on full manual and took quite a bit of time and experimentation to get any shots that that weren't blown out or almost black. Then I had to figure out how fast to pan in relation to the exposure time. It will get easier and more intuitive right?

Shane - I like this.

I have been a fan of the types of shots where it is a subtle transition of colour and contrast. I think you have done this well.

I could picture this hanging on a wall somewhere as an abstract style of shot.

It is not for me, not really because of the shot, but my eyes won't focus properly and don't know where to go.

I have had this happen to me with zoom bursts I have tried.
My eyes/brain gets confused.

However, thank you for posting and explaining the idea, I might try it myself.
We live 1 km from the sea, and from a small river.

I really like that, Shane. Well done. As the heat wave in Tasmania is heading this way, I will probably be spending some time at the beach next week, so I might try this idea myself -- if I don't first succumb to GregJ1763's 'solution' first.

There is something about the waves and the subtle shape/highlighting as they rolled over that caught my eye. I experimented with a crop on this to take out some of the sky. Does that lessen the confusion/focus issue?

I'm with Robin on this one, it doesn't do anything for me; it doesn't hold me, sorry.
The good thing is that you have a number of other members that do like it, so as always it's a matter personal taste.

What I do like is that you are trying different ideas, the best way to learn.

My eyes seem to see movement in the picture when I first look at it, so I probably need an optician.

However, I like what you have tried and must say the first attempt with the sky included, is better for me.
