LR 4 Grain effect
Simply a curiousity questions that will probably need to tap some of the more mature members of the forum as I'm guessing this goes back to the days of film.
Under the "Effect" menu in Lightroom 4 (probably other versions too, but LR4 is what I have) there is a 'Grain' option where you can add a grainy effect to your photo.
Now, I'm not one for adding alot of post processing effects to my photos to transform them into images/art. But I'm sure Adobe has included it for some reason sooooo....
Why would you add grain to a photo? Is it trying to mimic a film effect?
Thanks

Re: LR 4 Grain effect
Yes, it is to mimic a film effect. Several software packages also include other film-like effects such as filters that emulate the effect of cross processing film.
