    Controling a Canon DSLR (don't know about other brand cameras) is simple from an Android Smart Phone or an Android tablet as long as the camera can be conncsted by a USB cable. You can view the image and trigger the shutter but, cannot zoom because the zoom is a manual operation with Canon DSLR lenses...

    If you have an Android phone and a USB cable, you can elevate your camera and shoot using a monopod. I frequently carry a monopod so thet is no problem. Unfortunately my smartphone is windows based and I am not sure if I can control my camera using that phone. I do have an 8-inch Android Vizio tablet but that is a bit big to carry around...
