Moon with clouds
Taken last night from home with 400mm, 1/5 sec, f 10, ISO 3200, on tripod with 2 sec delay.
Noise reduction in luminance and colour only from RAW.
C&C please

Re: Moon with clouds
Very beautiful, Ken.
It could be interesting to try the same shot with a longer shutter speed and lower ISO, it could have some nice effects on the moving clouds.
I was wondering what originated the brown cast
Cheers

Re: Moon with clouds
This type of shot is always tricky, Ken, but if you get the exposure correct you can meter for the moon and get some moon details as well.
You should be able to drop the Iso to 800 or less, but it does require a good tripod, mirror lock up and cable release.
F11 was the traditional setting for moon photos but to get these scenes looking good I find that I have to open the aperture a bit to balance shutter speed and Iso.
And it needs 'the right type of cloud' without too much wind to move the clouds along.
Many attempts end in failure for me, but once in a while everything comes together with patchy thin cloud and a nice 'ring' around the moon. You have almost got it working right here.

Re: Moon with clouds
Hi Ken,
I like your shot. I've not tried to get clouds and the moon together but your image may get me to try some. We've been given some interesting suggestions which might result in creative moon shots.

All great advice. Now the hard part: being in the right place at the right time

Re: Moon with clouds
Probably the brown colour is from the vegetation fires in Australia, they are still giving good sunsets, and I thought that the colour was inetersting, that's why I took the photos.
I didn't use mirror lock up but I did use 2 sec delay

Re: Moon with clouds
Why do I get that feeling that my nails and teeth are growing?
Well done Ken.
