For what it's worth, I was using V4.6 some while back to open Sigma SD10 X3F files (pre-SD15). Was able to open the actual raw data via a setting (F12 raw tab) but I found that ACR 5.4 was good enough for most of my work although FastStones' re-sampling and JPEG options are pretty amazing.
Having said all that, V4.7 won't open X3F files, or even show their jpeg thumbnails. It displays the last good jpeg, tif, or whatever. So uninstalled it and re-installed "good old" V4.6.
