Twin Falls....the water

Last stop of the day....thank the allmighty! After clibing down through the woods to get the shots and back up to the trail....I am glad it is not a super long hike. I am beat!

Gorgeous exposures and rich tonalities that look natural. In the setting of the last one, I know how difficult it is to make a composition that really works. So, I especially appreciate how nice that one is.

I also like all of the other photos except that I have an issue with the waterfall in the background in the first and third photos. That waterfall looks frozen rather than flowing. It almost looks surreal in an otherwise very real setting.

Thanks Mike. I surely see wat you are getting at. Unfortunately at the speed in which the water was coming down that shute and the distance, changing my speed mattered little so I worked to get the foreground waters like I wanted.

In that situation, you might need to shoot two exposures -- the rear waterfall at one speed and the foreground cascades at a different speed -- and combine them during post-processing.

I might have to give that a go next time. I did try some faster shutters but just not fast enough for that section. Thanks, Mike. Oh and I am glad you like the last image. I always struggle with a busy forrest floor composition. It is so much easier to see than to capture. lol

Thank you, Dave. That #4 was interesting, there were 3 falls coming into it and none visible. The water seemed to be and endless pool spilling past me. It was a bit of a climb down slippery rock to get that perspective. Everyone else shot from 15ft above and behind my head.

Well I think the proximity to the water is what makes this shot. So it was worth the effort !!

Paul; love one and 4 the best, with number 1 you could almost make to pans one upper (really like the steep fall) and one of the lower part. With number 4 it is the details love the yellow on the branches of those trees it seems to in my mind to add a lot to the overall image.

I was looking these over and noticed a cool color cast to the first 4 so I re-did them and replaced what was there. These are the way they should have been lastnight. Tired eyes...

Thanks, Matt. You will enjoy it. There is plenty to shoot. It is a good hike to do when you only have a couple hours to spare. Although you could spend as much time as you wish and not run short on things to shoot.

On the question of shooting the flowing water and combining different images to get the best effect, I still think that Frank's first post in his Project 52 thread last year is the best guide to the subject. I've certainly used it to create, I think, good images.
