    Hi Graham,

You know the old song by Jim Reeves “A Stranger Is Just A Friend You Do Not Know”? Well maybe you have more friends than you realize.

You should never get that feeling of self-doubt due to one negative comment on your work. You said it yourself, many people like your work. Those are the reactions to your work you should remember and keep in mind and forget the negative comments.

Again I am back at Golf. If a Golfer is going to worry about the bad shot played, the rest of his game is also going to be bad. A good Golfer forgets about that bad shot and walks up to the ball and plays another shot with confidence, a good shot. The good shots are the ones worth remembering.

You are no longer locked in a bedroom and there is no more crying for help that never comes. You have friends, like the one in Toronto, and many here at CiC whom wish to see you succeed in what you are doing. Lean on those who are willing and prepared to support you.

What is perfection? Ever heard of the hunchback that felt he was the most imperfect person on earth and someone said to him that he is most probably the most perfect hunchback in the world?

PS. There is no such thing as a problem child, only PROBLEM PARENTS!

The first time I heard the phrase “Starvation Economy” was a while ago and was during a conversation with one of my Daughters, who at the time was completing her Undergraduate studies in Criminal Psychology. (Yes, I do indeed have two of them, in my family).

The phrase was directed to me as to describe a ‘reason’ for one of my recent actions (toward her).

I asked for an explanation of the phrase and she replied with a book reference: ‘The Ethical Slut’ – and she told me to “look it up”.

The reason she gave me only the book reference stems from, when she was younger and she did not understand a word which was used in conversation, I would often tell her to go to my office, in the book case and get the (Shorter Oxford) Dictionary and; “look it up” – so I think what she did to me is referred to as ‘pay back’.

Anyway – the book, 'The Ethical Slut', is very interesting and since the original version I understand that a second (larger) edition was released a few years ago.

One example of the ‘Starvation Economy’ at work, is the need to seek affection, that is SPECIFICALLY ALL the affection of any one particular person and setting rituals (or rackets) in place, such that one gets (or tries to get) that affection at the exclusion of that person giving affection to any other person.

The ‘Starvation Economy’ is predicated upon each person having a limited amount of affection and thus we need to exclude others, lest we don’t get the affection we need for our self.

There are many other examples, not just affection.

    Who says so?
I have not seen any Rule Book or Tablet of Stone that says ‘it is difficult subject to deal with’.

Wasn't it Sam Goldwyn who said 'Anybody who goes to a psychiatrist should have their head examined'.

Nothing wrong with a fear of failure - that is what makes us look both ways before crossing a road!

My nadir was being asked (and agreeing!) to be "official photographer" at a Jewish circumcision. "No flash" said the rabbi, I don't want to miss. I survived, of course, and thankfully so did the baby. Never again, though!

Just for interest - you as photographer may have the copyright, however as she paid for you to do the photography in the absence of any other contract she has the rights to use and it would be deemed the right to use the images for her purposes as she wishes, whilst you may not use without her permission.
