Eating dust!
She is real. The colour in this one is very accurate. She was eating dust, trying to cool down.

Is that common among elephants?
Thanks for the post. No idea they did this when there is foliage around that does have actual moisture.

They will do this to pick up certain minerals that they're not getting in the leaves/grass that they're eating. Could also be to pick up some gravel to help facilitate digestion.

Bobo, the greenery in the background is fooling you. This shot was taken in a zoo. No foilage in the enclosure.
It was around 37 Degrees C when I shot this. She was scraping dust with a front foot and throwing it over herself. She was also throwing dust in her mouth.
Yes Bobo it is common amongst Elephants. They would normally flap their ears to cool down. Think in a zoo they change habits.
