    Mini Competition #23

    Round 23 ...

    Here's how it works ...

    - You good folks post images in the thread

    - When we get 10 images I attach a voting poll

    - After 3 days the poll closes and the winner is declared!

    Too easy eh?

Limit of 1 image per post, and 2 image posts per person. Theme is nothing in particular, but should be appropriate to this forum (but I won't be getting too critical about this bit).

I have to ask Rob - is that reflection real (sure looks like it is). How did you pull it off and still maintain a pure black background? Amazing....

I use a piece of black perspex, which I bought from Ebay for $10. I placed the flower (a week old and past it) on the black perspex with an A3 sheet of black paper behind it acting as an infinity curve. Camera was on a tripod, and this was the only shot I took. Small amount of processing in CS4 - mostly to get the bottom half producing more exposure and contrast. I used CS4 brush tool which allows you to paint selective areas (in this case the black background) and adjust things such as contrast, sharpness, black etc. I used the brush tool on the reflection to increase the exposure. I know you can do this in Photoshop, but it's less destructive in RAW.

Here's a shot of the setup. You can see the black perspex on the table, with the black paper curving up behind. Simple, isn't it?

LOL - I'd laugh (again!) if the shot of the setup got more votes than the first shot!

    Its not my day
He was silent, immobile and had no intention to run away even when I approached close to take this shot. Thought, B&W is more suitable for the expression.

This pretty much makes my black raincoat background obsolete!
