    Hello, it been a while.....

    Hi everyone,

I last posted when I was in Barcelona, Spain and was asking you guys about taking photos at the Bocuse d'Or. I said then that I was going to take photos at the La Boqueria market, however I was robbed there and my whole camera bag was stolen from under my nose even though I was with colleagues. We were distracted by someone who wanted to know the time and my camera bag containing my 5D lll, 24-70mm f2.8L USM lens, ST-E2 Speedlite transmitter, 580EX ll Speedlite and several 16GB CF Cards. Replacing them burned a hole in my pocket already lightened by the cost of the trip to Lyon. That is the main reason why I've not been here in a while.

I was given a VIP pass to Bocuse d'Or which allowed me to get up to the booths to be able to take close up shots of Team Singapore preparing their dishes for the challenge. Most of the shots were more like "action" shots whilst they were working. The standards were exceedingly high and the tension levels so thick you could've cut it with a knife.

Very nice set, I see you were shooting under convention hall (mixed) lighting which can be a burden to shoot under.

sorry to hear about your gear.

I actually shot about 450 photos and have to pick out 10 for the President of the Singapore Chefs Association for their publication. I tried AWB, Fluorescent and even incandescent settings and gave up so left it at AWB. I also used some reduced power bounce flash and even full auto camera and flash settings. Got some very interesting effects.

Thanks for the condolences John, but I've gotten over it. I was more angry with myself than anything else and am now very aware of my circumstances. I've bought a very large carribina, those used my rock climbers, and have it connected to the sling of my replacement camera bag which I then snap and lock to the armrest of chairs or the legs of tables when I'm outside in public. I was almost suspicious of everyone in Paris and Lyon!

I told myself that if the person had to resort to stealing things, then I thanked God that I was in a better position than him as I still had the means to replace my lost equipment although it did cost a very pretty penny and more!

    Hi Anthony,

Welcome back and also sorry to hear of your theft.

Two good pics and one; the second, for which I am wondering why you didn't crop it to remove the gent who looks somewhat out of context on the right. You can crop to exclude him, but leave the background discussion group in shot quite easily I think.

    Cheers,

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've not done any PP on any of the 450 or so photos, not good at it and although I've got LR, I don't know how to even upload the raw photos to it (just bought it yesterday), haven't had the time since coming back. These photos are JPG and were uploaded to my iPad2 whence I'm posting from. Will eventually get to it as I need to get the 10 selected photos to Chef soon.
