Woods
Out at the weekend in horrid light, really grey and flat so have resorted to PP and wondered what people thought

The dense brush in the background doesn't let the twisted gnarled branches stand out sufficiently. I don't know what you could do short of some intensive work with a chainsaw and axe. Maybe try a blur tool to see if you can soften them?
I would also like the root ball to the left lower corner to be a bit more in the frame.
The subject and the sepia treatment are both intriguing. Did you consider trying for a closer view of the interaction between he grass, bark and trunk. Especially the part where the bark is knocked off on the right trunk.
A good subject I think

Thanks for that, I quite liked the wall effect but as you say there is not a lot of separation. I did think about doing some close ups but because its been raining for the last 18 months here I fear I would have vanished in the swamp if I had strayed from the path.
