I used to live in New York. The building in the background on the right side going into the fog is the Empire State Building. This photo, by the way, was just taken in December 2012.

    The Tyne Bridge

Spanning the River Tyne in the North East of England. Newcastle Upon Tyne on the left, Gateshead on the right.
In the distance the Millennium Bridge known as the "The Eye" because of the way it opens to allow passage underneath.

The William Hunter Memorial in the Chelmsford Road ( the 'old' main road before the bypass was built) in BRENTWOOD, Essex England. William Hunter was burnt at the stake for his religious beliefs in the Middle Ages. The actual site of the burning was down the Ingrave Road outside where Brentwood School is now. 1962 Rolleicord Vb + 75mm f3.5 Xenar lens, Ilford FP4 film.

I'm just not sure how much they still enjoy their photography as they do concentrate mainly on winning competitions, albeit they have found a winning formulae.

Keep these local shots coming in, by the number of viewings it appears we all like to check out our neighbours' stomping grounds

Observatory Hill on a rainy day. The ball on the tower rises to the top of the mast just before 1PM and drops on the stroke of 1. This is repeated by a canon shot from Fort Denison to let everyone know the time. This is a relic from the sailing days when Sydney was a very busy working port.
The building houses an old working optical telescope, but of course it is an old instrument and because it is in the middle of the city now the light pollution limits its use.

If you turn to the right here you get a view of the bridge, but this is more interesting if less recognisable.

Long way to travel for a night's baby-sitting!

Why do you spell the (other) Lake's name, with an "Aw" in front of "Bulalakaw"? - I have been wondering that for a long time . . .

I recall as a mere 16 years old galley boy in the merchant navy sailing under this iconic bridge in the mid 60s. Awesome!
