Tried a some close up shots of my cat. I didn't think I got the lighting correct. Any comment and pointers?

The only potential exposure problem with shots like this is over exposure, which you have avoided.
Easy to slightly increase brightness during editing. I think I may try slightly increasing the highlights until the eyes start to look wrong. But keep the shadows as they are.
For me, the first shot is the more interesting 'pose'.
