Pine Grosbeaks

[Teton Chuck]

I took these shots in Jackson Hole, WY. The Pine Grosbeak's move down into the lower elevations during the winter. They are shy birds and it usually takes some time to get a decent photo.

The first shot is a male, taken during a snowstorm. The second is a female. C&C appreciated.

Thank you Joe. Sorry, but you can't have all of the pretty birds in Florida. I wish there was a way we could trade birds for a week or two. I doubt that I could match the quality of your photos but it would sure be fun to try. Looking forward to more of your work.

Great shots! It's so hard to take photos in the pine trees as there are always bright spots but I think you've done a good job of dealing with them. I absolutely love #2. The subtle tones and lighting really make this photo along with the pose of the bird.

They look as if they are great but are coming up a bit soft on my monitor. Your signature is soft as well so it must be more to do with the file upload rather than the quality of the photograph.

Paul, Thanks for the feedback. The first photo may be somewhat soft. The second appears to be quite sharp on my monitor. It would be interesting to see what you received. It did make me go back and take a look.

Great shots Chuck, look sharp on my laptop, (but i'm not wearing my glasses) the conditions were clearly dificult and you seem to have coped. My only wish is that you had got the first bird against the 2nd background !

Thanks Bobo, Mat and James, I appreciate the comments. Mat, I plan to go out again tomorrow. I will try to get the male to move over to the other perch. Seriously, I will work at getting some more shots with a "clear" background. It is a complicated environment but a good challenge.
