First bird shot ever
I'm not changing my ways, I was just out with my dogs and saw this fellow shoot by and land in a nearby tree. Got as close as I could, about 25m and got this. I'm not ready for BIF, so maybe I'll try some BAR (birds at rest).

Re: First bird shot ever
I like it Kevin. Background is a bit busy, but it's wildlife (bird is not posing from inside a cage!) and there is not much we can do. Is it a squirrel he is snacking?
Thanks for sharing and I hope you will start using your great experience and talent to "supply" us lots of flying guys in both BIF and BAR modes!
Regards,

Re: First bird shot ever
Very nice catch Kevin Bg is what it is, all you can do is move around to get branches from intersecting the bird's head etc. Good exposure and lots of detail !! Fine catch !!

Re: First bird shot ever
Thank, Alfred. This guy was becoming quite aware of me, so I was afraid I'd lose the shot completely if I moved. So 'tis what 'tis. He left almost immediately afterward.

Re: First bird shot ever
Great capture, Kev. I wonder if you could remove that vertical branch just in front of its beak?

Re: First bird shot ever
Great capture, Kevin. The fact that you caught him with a squirrel makes it an interesting image sitting or not.

Re: First bird shot ever
Thanks , Paul and Greg for the feedback. Sorry for the slowness of response, but am on a rare business trip.
Greg, certainly will remove that stick- I offered that shot with no BG adjustments and it could use a couple.

Re: First bird shot ever
Great shot. If you are up to it, you may want to photoshop ( clone, to be specific ) the the two vertical branches, to make it perfect. Regardless, it is a beautiful picture.

Kevin:
Good for you. Great shot of hawk with prey. You can even see the squirrel's feet clearly.

I like it Kevin . Good clear eyes, beak, and we forgive no talons when hes got them stuck in a prey. Love that you kept the environment natural.
