After trying to capture this Falcon for many months, I Finally got him. While shooting birds near my feeder, all of the birds scattered quickly. Behind me I can hear bird chirping like crazy. I looked behind me to see what was going on and noticed a rather large bird on a post. I took my tele and saw it was a falcon who had just captured his prey. I stood around taking photo's until he was done. It could be a she, but I didn't want to constantly type he/she.
What was funny was that I had planned to go to a reserve to shoot birds but was too tired to do the walking. I didn't have to go far from home! He was just up the telephone poll.
The photo's were cropped more than 50%, so not as sharp as I would like. Shown in order from capture until he left.
1) pulling out feathers...
2) Lifting it's prey by the leg (small bird)
3) I'm guessing this would be the preys beak
4) finished eating and cleaning his beak.
5) taking off.
He was too fast to get him in flight. He swooped down and made a quick turn behind my house. So I guess we're neighbors.
