Sling straps bag choices?

It's similar to a post earlier but I was hoping to hear from others that use across the shoulder shoulder straps such as black rapid, custom slr, carry speed, etc.

I tend to find that using them with a bag on often hampers the desired effect of the sling itself.
With the strap either getting folded up in my sling bag's straps or not sitting flat on my backpack's strap.

Do any of you have a recommendation for a bag that best suites a sling strap for cameras?

I used a KATA 3in1-10 for a couple of years and liked it so much that when it got too small I went to the 3in1-20. Well built and I would recommend you take a look at it. A nice option is the ability to convert it to a backpack when needed.

Blah..... my bad....the title is a bit misleading after reading it over...
What I mean by sling strap is the across the should straps that screws into the tripod thread on the bottom of the camera. (Not the around the neck standard strap style)
Bags that go well with that style of camera strap.

If you have tried using that kind of strap and like it, great. My wife and I found that the camera bounced around far more than using a sling strap going over the shoulder (not the neck) that attaches to the two traditional spots on the camera.

For walkabout shooting with lighter loads, I use a rigid messenger bag and a home-made sling adjusted pretty short to keep the camera riding above the bag. You have to be pretty flexible to draw the camera, but it stays tucked nicely behind your arm without undue motion. I can rotate the sling and the bag forward if I need to access any gear. It's not ideal, but it works great for situations where you're clambering about and longer straps would leave the camera swinging and vulnerable.

Think Tank makes some slings that are integrated with backpack straps. Streamlined, but I would think the camera'd be at risk if you ever set the bag down. I think the best way to make sure your sling operates smoothly is to set the strap length shorter than the bag's strap to keep them out of each other's way, and put your camera sling on last. Similar to how divers route their long air-sharing hose last to make sure nothing gets in the way of deploying it. But that analogy is probably useless to everyone but Manfred.

You know, I never actually thought about using it that way, but wouldn't that defeat the gliding feature that most provide?

I'm not familiar with the gliding feature. The strap that we used didn't have one.

Take a look at the video Andrew posted above.
Some people (including myself) swear by them, but of course that's a whole different thread I'm sure.
I've tried a few and CarrySpeeds FS Slim strap is quite good, but of course.... It brought me to this question, so it's also a matter of compatibility... (Did I spell that correctly?..... )

Hi Mars,

I have a CarrySpeed CS Pro. I'm typically carrying a Canon 7D and a Canon 100-400mm lens and I like that the strap has an extra support that can attach to the lens ring making the whole thing more stable. I also many times am hiking with a Lowepro backpack style bag. I usually put the CarrySpeed on first and then the backpack. Since the camera setup slides on the strap and the strap does not need to move, the backpack does not interfere with it. I should say that I don't typically buckle the waist straps on the backpack and I'm not looking at the setup now so I can't say if that would interfere if you needed to use the waist strap. I've had minor problems if I'm wearing a really bulky coat - mainly because nothing moves well with all that padding but I haven't had to do it enough times to really try to solve the issue. I also like that they include a wrist strap. Sometimes when I'm sitting in one spot for a while, I'd rather not have that big strap on and it's easy to pop it off and snap on the wrist strap just so I have some protection to keep me from dropping the camera in the lake.

I have not experience with any other strap but I can say that the CarrySpeed company really seems to listen to customers and continually improve their product. My son-in-law was having an issue with one of their plates slipping on an older camera and they replaced 2 of his plates with a newer model for the cost of shipping. I wasn't having any issue on my camera but I bought that newer model plate for my long lens.

Edit: I should probably say that I have the length adjusted so that the camera is beside my hip about at the juncture of hip and leg.

Also take a look at a cross-shoulder glide strap by CAPA (www.capa.hk). I saw it on one of the Kelby training videos used by one of the pros and checked it out- have absolutely loved it.

I wear a messenger bag with an extra lense or two, filters, rainsleeve,and lense cleaning stuff, and on the opposite shoulder (crossing OVER the messenger bag strap so the glide isn't interfered with) the CAPA strap with my camera attached. I've done up to an 8 mile hike with this setup and been absolutely comfortable. I NEVER have to adjust the strap to get a shot- just shoot and drop.

Is it just me or are those Capa straps a perfect copy of black rapids straps down to the font and color?

Not exact, at least the model I have, but quite similar. All of these cross shoulder glides are similar, and all a great idea.
