Steve,
Very nice picture.
Thanks for sharing.
Antonio.
Nice timing, Steve. A very nice seen made better by the timing. Well done.
A very poignant moment. Well captured and well processed.
Very nice, especially the treatment of the last bits of leaf on the barren tree and the rusty color of the one sheltering them.
Excellent shot. I have two impossible suggestions, but they're probably impossible given the remote likelihood of this moment occurring again. So feel free to stop reading.
If the shot was taken from a little higher up, the snow would give the deer a cleaner background. Additionally, zooming out a little further to include the whole tree might have been an improvement. It's sort of distracting as-is, like when someone's foot is cut out of a shot. But photography's about moments, and you aced the timing.
The quality is a given. Now what we really concentrate on is the aesthetic in terms of content, composition etc. Was the term 'capturing the moment' ever better applied?
No, never! Was the term 'capturing the moment' ever better applied?
Steve, it is really a very nice image. It conveys lots of a calm sense. I also love the composition. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you antonio

Thanks paul.
I wish I could take pictures like that!
No reason you can't , bruce. If i can do it, anyone can. The biggest part of the battle, is learning how to get close to the subject. (this image was taken on a golf course.)

Thanks mike.

Thanks lex .................sorry, but not possible. Higher up or zooming our(since i use a prime lens)
I do, however, have more of the tree in the original, but not all of it.(most of the tree, but the top is clipped.) What it comes down to, is how much weight you want on the deer. Crop too wide, and you loose weight on the subject, and give more weight on the trees and background. I chose the balance ,i thought was best ,for the overall image and content.
Compositions are a balancing act.
Thank you bobo!!
