    Amaryllis Analysis

    Hello all,

It's been a while since I posted here. I believe the last time you saw me I was struggling with reds. I hope you will find I have made progress on that score. These are some recent macros I would welcome your criticism on. A bit of a mixed bag, but all of them linked by a common subject.

I don't do a lot of macro stuff, but this is a well composed and edited series artistically crafted.
I particulary like the compostion of #2. Lovely reds!

Stunning images, Janis. I am a fan of the amaryllis - although we call them hippeastrums here - and I have struggled to find a way to shoot them that shows them off to their best. I particularly like 3 and 6 as I think they are quite intimate. I also like hte abstract effect of 4. You have achieved what I have blindly groped towards. I'll have to buy a macro lens before next spring

Hans, Karm and Greg: Thank you for your kind comments.

Greg, when you buy that macro, you should also pick up some extension tubes. I have the Kenkos and they are on my 105 mm more often than not. I am only just starting to learn how they work, but I like what they do.

The Cayman Islands Photography Club had their monthly meeting last night. Subject was image sharpness - mainly related to in-camera sharpness. But it was discussed the importance of sharpness in a compositional sense. Good examples. If I had a wifi connection, these would have been great to show. Especially as the first on has a lot in focus and was a great comparison.
    Nicely done Janis.

Wow, Graham, that's high praise. I am still feeling my way and have a lot of shouldas, like #5, which would have benefited from a bit more DOF, but that is great encouragement to persevere!
