Adrian found this http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1192870?tstart=0
it looks like you have to re import but not all of your bits n pieces will import over.
when i last upgraded, from 3 to 4 it didnt remove lr 3 dont you still have lr4 on your machine?
Hi Adrian,
Yep. I also panicked. I thought they were overwritten or something. But, thankfully, the LR4.4 catalogs were still there.
My workaround was to create a new LR5 catalog in LR5 beta. Then, import only those images/folders I want to redux using LR 5 beta.
HTH
Thanks guys. This sounds too much hassle for someone who just wanted to see what LR5 could do. Do you know how I can return to L4.4 and just forget all of this? I really dont want to lose edits I've done in L4 etc
Just open your LR4.4. Our LR4.4 catalogues are still there.
When you open LR5 beta, if it asks you about your LR5 catalogue, just create a new one. It won't affect our LR4.4 catalogues.
Meanwhile, just have fun editing around in LR5..........
( if you want to get rid of LR5, just uninstall it in your control panel.)
Thanks :-) Uninstalling as we speak...will wait for the proper version
The Adobe advice is to remember this is a beta release. Set up a new catalogue, and duplicate images to play. Otherwise, wait for the commercial release. There are lots of videos taking you through the major enhancements (some of which look quite handy to me. A non-destructive implementation of a context sensitive healing brush would be nice, though )
Forgive me for being a smart a**e guys, but it is wise to read the Adobe bumph before downloading. It clearly states that on the beta version of LR5 you will not be able to import your existing catalogues as an option, although you can import existing files across into a new catalogue. The commercial version when released will have the catalogue import function reinstated.
The new functions seem to work well, particularly the automatic perspective correction. What will be interesting is how much they want for the upgrade when it is eventually released.
Normally with LR betas, they specifically don't import or convert existing catalogues, and Adobe say loud and up-front that they advise people not to use the betas for production work.
They also say that when the release version appears, it may not correctly read catalogs created by the beta.
In other words, you should assume that any work you do with the beta may be lost.
L5 Beta will not load on MACs not operating OS system 10.7 or Higher. I run OS X 10.6.8.. Does anyone know if LR5 when released will support all current users of LR 4 on MAC OS X 10.6.8 ?
