Sometimes The Clouds Can Be Kind

I took these shots yesterday at Lake Moogerah and for once the clouds were co-operative. I used a polariser to bring out the best in the clouds and would be interested to hear what you think of the shots.

#1 seems a bit strange to me, Dave. A dark patch of blue sky but with brighter areas on both sides.

The others are fine.

Geoff I think that was caused by the polariser.

Hi Dave,

I don't think the CPL did you any favours on #1, it has the classic look of a CPL use on too wide an angle shot - a dark band of sky with brighter bits either side. (as I now see Geoff noticed too)

I quite like #2 because of the sunlight.

#5 works for me, but only if I crop most of the foreground to concentrate the attention on the more distant sunlit rolling hills.

So for me, the lighting is paramount.

Thanks Dave. Yes it was caused by the polariser. I have read about this effect with a wide angle lens but there is no teacher like "first hand experience" !

I think this is a wonderful composition because of where you have placed shoreline low down in the frame. Because what we then get is a big sky that, with those clouds in it, is dramatic and beautiful.

Still arguing with myself as to whether I like the tree in there or not.

This was stitched from 3 shots and I was quite pleased with how seamless the stitching turned out given the amount of detail in the sky. I know what you mean about the tree.
