    Hi from Glasgow!

    Hiya all.

I've been taking photos for years with compacts and more recently a Fuji bridge - but I recently got a hold of my first DSLR (Nikon D3200) and have been completely hooked ever since!

This website and the community here has been a HUGE help to me. The tutorials have been absolutely invaluable.

I love photographing my home city of Glasgow and I travel a lot around the rest of Scotland so I'm looking forward to sharing some of my experiences with you all.

Thanks again for your wonderful guidance!

    Chris

Hello and welcome to a fellow Scots-based member. Great to have you here. Don't know if that pic means that you, too are a young person, or one of us oldies. Whatever, you're just as welcome.

I'm glad you like CiC and I hope that, now that you're part of the forum, that it becomes even more useful.

By the way, so that you don't continue to get people asking you what your proper name is, because most us use that on here, you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

    Re: Hi from Glasgow!

Thanks for the welcome, Donald! Profile's updated

I love the idea that people might gauge my years by the subject matter of my photos!

As it happens - the D3200 was a much appreciated present from friends for my 40th birthday in March. Does that mean I'm an old-un or a young-un? I have no idea!

    Thanks again .. !

    Chris

Unfortunately, from my point of view, that means you're a young 'un!

Good to have you here, Chris.

    Hi Chris,

We all learn far more from our mistakes, getting it right is boring

You might want to look at focus point selection modes, make it uses one only and make sure that is on the subject (e.g. by panning with them) - here it looks like it has focused on the background.

The exposure and contrast range are good and I like the composition/timing of the shot.

    Cheers,

    Re: Hi from Glasgow!

Thanks Dave, you're absolutely right of course, the focus is on the background. I did get a few with the riders in focus but for other reasons they were not so good. Getting everything right will come eventually and I intend to enjoy the journey, mistakes and all!

    Cheers again for the feedback.

    Chris
