Hi Cherie,
The gallery system will down-sample the images (making them softer) if they're more than (off memory) 600 pixels wide when you upload them, but that's the only thing that I can think of.
You need a good sharp image to start with in order to allow for a bit of softening during uploading. I usually give them a slight touch of Unsharp Mask after a substantial downsize to just 'refresh' them a little.
With regard to your photo. I wouldn't do a lot to it. Maybe just a tweak with Curves to 'liven up' the rather flat colours. Possibly a little boost of Saturation as well, but don't overdo either.
Alternatively you could try making a duplicate layer and experiment with different Blend Modes and Opacity.
But these are only final tweak suggestions, the basic image looks good to me.
Hi Cherie,
Can you upload the origional RAW file somewhere and send us the link to it?
This image is just screaming to have all those colors become dominate
can you recommend somewhere to upload to? I have photobucket pro but that doesn't like the RAW files.
Pop along to www.sendthisfile.com & create yourself a free account. Upload the file with your eMail address as the destination, and then copy/paste the download link that they send you either here or to Kent via a PM (they only allow 3 downloads, but you could always upload it again if more wanted it).
I joined sendthisfile... started the upload and accidently closed the tab!
So I am restarting it now.. but its almost 1 am here so time for bed. Will post the link in the morning.
Hi Wendy,
If you are using Firefox, and apologies if you already know this; there is a handy item called "Undo Close Tab", available if you right click on any open tab (avoid the "X" though! )
Or in IE, there is a similar "Recently Closed Tabs" option.
Not sure whether the upload would continue from where it left off though, but the above is handy feature.
Cheers,
Hi Dave,

Great tip! I do love the tabs feature but it does make it easy to accidently close something!Hi Wendy,

Oh.. P.S.... as much as I like the name Wendy - I think my parents prefer me to be called Cherie
Thanks
Cherie
They look great!
Its interesting looking at my own photograph once it has been edited by someone else... It makes me like it more, if that makes sence?
She is a 'snow white' looking child she her skin is very white. Kent I like the crop size and Colin I notice the background to her left is now greener, which works well.
I guess what I need to do know is have a go myself and see if I can do what you guys did. Since buying Photoshop I have been too scared to use it!
Ah - I've probably warmed the skin tones a touch too much then (very hard to know, not knowing the child).
That's due to the warmer colour temperature (more yellow), and the lowered exposure..Colin I notice the background to her left is now greener, which works well.
First thing you need to do is religiously work through those two books I recommended (Then you'll be able to do things like this in your sleep!).I guess what I need to do know is have a go myself and see if I can do what you guys did. Since buying Photoshop I have been too scared to use it!

Wow! Real cute girl there, and great photoshopping. Colin, you edited every portion of the pic individualy or all of it together? I mean you made different layer for the skin and chose just the skin, and likewise, chose the green area in background and worked upon it? Sorry, If I am sounding too stupid
Thanks, Colin. I am yet to learn the exposure settings. Just don't get them
