'Lonely Path' from when I was a 'Beginner'
I started photography in 1951 and my first 'good camera' was the British 'Ensign Selfix' 16/20 model II with the 75mm f3.5 Ross Xpres lens ( 16 shots on 120 or 620 film) I would cycle round chemists' shops asking if they had any 'outdated films cheap' as I was only a Schoolboy and bought a lot of Ilford FP3 for Six Pence a roll !
I went over a local Park on my Bike -- I saw the light effect and took a shot ( on cheap tripod) and did a 10x8" print for the Beginners' Section of the South Essex Camera Club ( I was the YOUNGEST Member at 16 years old) and titled it 'Lonely Path' as I had been taught at Club you should have 'Human Interest' in such photos and there was NOBODY ABOUT -- and it won First Prize !! Here is a scan of a modern print in my files on Kentmere S/W Glossy Bromide paper -- it must have been taken about 1953-54 .

Hi Peter, I am not an expert, just a beginner but I think this image is beautiful and would be proud to have it in my collection. ![Smile](https://cdn.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/images/smilies2/smile.png)

Evidence that the 16 year-old knew how to compose a good picture.

This is nicely done. It's not easy to maintain all that detail on film with highlights like that going on.

Lovely shot Peter. I can see why it won. I really like the character that film gives your images. Its something that is difficult to replicate in digital.

Very nice image... I would expect that you are just as proud of it now as you were at sixteen!

I agree it is a beautiful shot. No wonder it was rated so highly.

It is a very good photograph, and I see why the judges liked it.
It proves that the concept of "human interest" doesn't mean actual humans are required to be in the picture.

Thanks all - yes, I still like it -- wish I could come up with a 'winner' like that now I am a 'Pensioner' !
