Re: Is B&H Photo & Video reputable?

As an aside to this, when I visited the B&H store a couple of years ago the gentleman behind the counter was more than willing to let me play with the lenses, cameras, flashes and shoot the breeze with me. We had a nice long chat about in body vs. lens based image stabilization. If nothing else, B&H appear to have hired good people who are willing to spend some time with the average guy with a couple hundred dollars in his pocket.

I'm going back to NY this fall... B&H is on my list of places to visit... and I already have a list of things I want to buy.

Re: Is B&H Photo & Video reputable?

    A couple more B&H anecdotes:

I recently bought a grip for my camera and it didn't function. I returned the grip to B&H and they sent me a second grip. That didn't function either, so I realized the problem was with my camera, not the grip. I didn't know if I wanted to keep the grip until I would hear from Nikon about the cost of repairing the camera. Nikon had a huge backlog at the time, so B&H gave me written authorization that extended the period by about a month or two during which I could return it. I ended up keeping the grip.

On a separate occasion, I contacted the call center to learn if there was any equipment that would make it possible for me to safely suspend my camera from a boom. Considering that the camera is primarily for shooting stills, I contacted that department. The person explained that he was sure the people in the video department would be able to figure out something for me, as they more often deal with that situation. The person he transferred me to explained that a combination of three small items that were not prepackaged as a kit would make it possible but that I would need to be patient on the telephone so he could take the time to figure them out. Just as we were about to place the order, he realized that he had accidentally selected one item -- an adapter that cost less than $5 -- that was incompatible with the other two items. He did some more research and found the right item. I was not the least bit surprised to learn when everything arrived that this jury-rigged combination did exactly what I wanted it to do.

Thank you. That's very kind. I'll get here as often as I can and certainly invite anyone to email me - henryp@bhphoto.com - if there's a thread I should be involved in but have overlooked.

An aside -- this forum works for me with Internet Explorer but not at all with Firefox. Is this a site issue or on my end?

A good number of our members appear to be accessing the site with Firefox. When you say it doesn't work at all, what exactly is happening? Any details will help us get to the bottom of it...

I've used B&H for ten years and have been completely satisfied with their service and shipping. As a member of NAPP (National Association of Photoshop Professionals) I get free shipping. B&H is my number one source for my gear. I have purchased from Adorama when B&H did not have the item or was sold out and I couldn't wait. Both are very good. We are lucky to have such reputable and knowledgeable suppliers only a few keyboard clicks away.

This is unrelated to their excellent reliability, but I really like how B&H closes their site for Jewish holidays. Adds a very human element to their website.
This is a most impressive part of B&H. To be willing to honor their Holy Days as they do is really something, especially given the amount of foot traffic they probably miss being closed on Saturday. I have called and congratulated them several time for their adherence to their religious beliefs.

Plus, as everyone has said, they are terrific businessmen and women.

I purchased the Canon EF 70-200 F4L a couple of weeks ago from B and H Photo.

It was cheaper than buying from a local retailer by a very good margin. I did get picked up at customs and had to pay for duty but it still came out cheaper than a local retailer. It was delivered to New Zealand in 6 days.

I was very happy and impressed with the service.

I have had good luck buying from them and will continue to buy from them. Same with Adorama.

Thanks for your speedy reply. Whatever the problem was (and it could have been my IT people getting daffy) I'm here via Firefox now.

Although I am not a religious guy myself, I certainly respect that there are certain business persons that place their convictions ahead of their wallets...

BTW: The B&H catalog is a wish book beyond any wish book I have ever seen!
