The D5100 has the better sensor so I'd go for that and extra lenses.
Thanks for your feedback - what are your thoughts on Tamron lenses?
The Tamron Macros have a very good reputation.
It all depends on which Tamron lensI have the 70 to 300 image stabilised Tamron, used mostly for wildlife, which I am very happy with.
It would probably get you more helpful answers if you tell us what style of photography you are interested in and ask what lenses could help realise that. Your budget will of course be a factor too!
You could also update your profile to say whereabouts you are in the world and your "real" name. All makes it a bit more friendly, and knowing where you are makes it easier for folks to offer advice on sourcing kit.

OK its part of an Kit that my local supplier is offering. Aside from the Nikon kit they are offering :
Tamron AF A17 70-300mm not sure exactly what all these mean & i dont know if its VR or not.
Photography I am potentially interested in - My new baby, due in August. My food as I an a chef & the fact that I live on a beautiful trpoical Island would mean landscapes & possible wildlife, although this would be second to the beaches etc...
Just out of curiosity, Phil, which island do you live on?
Not Manhattan?
PHUKET -THAILAND as it says on my profile
Not even remotely close to Manhattan
So back to my quandry....... now we have my geographical location sorted
Anyone with some feedback like to chip in please?
