    Spotted Sandpiper

Spotted Sandpiper in mating plumage. Shot from my usual position in the kayak.

I really really like this image a lot. Aside from the intimate angle and proximity, that clump of varied foliage completes the picture fantastically. I'm drawn into this like crazy.

Thanks Matt, it is one of those images that I can really say I tried for this exact composition. The bird was trundling along a downed tree in the water and I waited until this exact spot to snap a few shots. The others I took without any foliage in the frame just don't have the dramatic effect as this one. It is a simple shot but I really like this one as well.

Definitely a winning combination there Monte; low angle, good long lens and an unexpected approach direction from most humans - another very good capture.

What the others have said is very true, an excellent shot. I wonder if you would share your light source? Natural spot of light or did you direct a controlled flash at the bird? You must have a lot of patience to get just the right shots!

Hello Monte: This is another fabulous shot! The colours are so rich and pleasing to the eye. I also like the low angle, and as with your teal photos, the background is so complimentary to the subject. Please keep them coming.
