Hi Bruce,
200-400 mm Tamron lens
These grizzlies are orphaned bears that are now living at a wildlife refuge created especially for them in 2001. It is located on Grouse Mountain a small ski resort located in North Vancouver. The natural bear habitat is surrounded by a barbed wire fence, and a wooden fence. I stood on the wooden fence and photographed them through an opening in the barbed wire fence. A small feat in balancing while hand holding a long lens...
On this particular day I was lucky because the bears were up on a small hill close to the fence, of course you can see that one was intent on napping. I hope to visit a few more times and perfect my technique. Of course just because I'm visiting does not mean that the bears will show themselves that day but here's hoping luck will be with me.
You are one lucky lady.
We do have 2 new pandas at the zoo but with the millions of people crowding into that place, it will be impossible to get any shots.
