Owl shots nos.1 and 3 are excellen. Nice details on the squirrel but the BG is distracting.
Hello Dan, thank you for viewing and commenting. I agree that the background in the squirrel is distracting. I think what I posted below helps somewhat. I do not like the sky showing through in the first but with the fur of the tail I have not found an acceptable way to change that. I looked at your images from Prince William Sound and intended to comment but became distracted. Beautiful area and great eagle shot.
I opened the images in Photoshop Elements and made a copy of the background layer. I chose Multiply for the blending mode which darkens the image. I left the Opacity at 100% because I wanted the full effect. I made a Mask on that layer and chose a soft brush to paint over the squirrel and foreground branches to exclude them from the darkening.
The reworks are an improvement IMO. The second shot of the set is pretty darn nice. Thanks for describing the technique. I've never used the multipy blending before. Will give that a try.
Don't know how I missed these...................Excellent series of shots joe!!! Enjoyed them alot.
Beautifully sharp without felling unnatural. Nice~
Joe, how much does the owl charge for modeling?
Seriously nice shots!

Very nice! Squirrel taste like chicken, never tasted owl.
