I was hoping someone could steer me right on this one. Right above the flower there was a white road, mostly blown out. I attempted to darken the area so there was a nice contrast to the flower being shared. The image was darkened in the area in question, but there was a very synthetic feel to it. Any suggestions or C&C?
This image was shot in jpeg and with the in-camera B&W feature enabled.

I was wondering what if you selected the kids and put them on a new layer, then you could darken the layer below them, as they would not be affected by that change.

Yes Tom: Photoshop CS or Elements would be needed as you have to layer the image. Did not know that you were using only lightroom.

Considering that the flowers in the bottom left corner are a bit distracting, try darkening them.

This is a very interesting photo. I keep going back and looking at it. It reminds me quite a lot of some of the paintings of Bouguereau. The only thing I would change is to crop off the top 1/8 inch.

Bummer, not in the cards for new software...Maybe next year, lol.
Here is a retake on it with the crop, darker foreground flowers and the main flower lighter.
I also included the original as a point of reference of where it came from type of idea...The other idea was to make it a long landscape with the same height crop...

Tom,
I think you have the right crop! I can't think of any other method to make sense of the area by the road than to use layers in any version of Photoshop. Although a close crop of the girl's face looking down (the girl on the left) would be nice too. Children's faces are always a focal point for me and her hair is framing her face so nicely.

I really like the outcome with everyones suggestions. If I was shooting in raw versus jpeg would the road be easier to fix?
