Feather Quill in Wood
I came across this image. I don't know if someone planted the quill or if it happened naturally (my preferred explanation). Comments welcomed.

I really like the colours in this shot, Karm, and the way you have caught the sun in the quill. Good stuff. Did you crop any off the right side?

I like the contrasting textures - rough wood fine feather & the almost transparent 'writing end' of the quill.

Re: Feather Quill in Wood
Great concept, Karm! I'm sure it was a tornado that threw that quill into the wood. I'm absolutely positive about that.
Your images so often have an artistic slant to them that takes them beyond the traditional approach to photography that I have to believe that you have reasons for making this image the way you did. However, I wonder if you have an image in which the point that the quill enters the wood is in focus and perhaps that and the feathers are in focus.

Hi Greg. The image is heavily cropped and rotated.

Thanks Pania. You got out of the image what I got out of it.

Re: Feather Quill in Wood
I will add tornado to my list of possible explanations.
This image is heavily cropped and rotated. I was actually shooting under low light conditions and lots of wind that pretty much forced me to use a shallow depth of field. I do not like how my camera handles high ISO so I try to keep it at a relatively low number. (I know you can eliminate noise in an image but I also do not like how it affects a picture's texture.)
So, to get to your question, yes, I would have liked to have the entire image in focus. The original picture was not a closeup. I aimed the camera at the feather and not the quill. The image is a second best solution to multiple constraints.
