I remember the last time I had a go on one of those - I was whizzing down a moderately steep slope - and then towards the end of the run I discovered (at the last minute) that someone had made a "small ice-like structure", which I proceeded to hit full-force, which sent me flying.
... I'm definately too old for that kind of "stuff"!
Sounds like you might need to buy a longer lens Janck ... you know, "just in case"

Current budget will allow me at least a 2X teleconverter. I still have my eye out for some good used glass though.
