This is a monochrome-themed competition that is open to all CiC members.

ENTERING. Add your MONOCHROME/B&W image in a new post below. Make sure to change your post title to a name for your picture (click the "Go Advanced" button). Only one entry per person, and any tinted images should utilize no more than one color. For help posting images, go here.

Once voting begins, a new competition will be automatically started.

    Good luck!

Notes: Please do not request feedback or comment on other images until after voting has closed, as it could be unfair to other entrants. We also ask that only recently taken or edited photos be used as entries (in the spirit of motivating everyone to continually improve).

PS: Make sure to also vote on the previous competition here.

Interesting image, however, the HDR is way overdone, resulting in serious haloes around the edges of dark objects.

Great moon image. Would be interested to know some details of the shot, not only the equipment used but also the location data(distance from potential light pollution, weather conditions, etc.

I like the shot composition. While the distance depth is handled by increasing layers of mist and haze there is little separation in the fore and mid-ground especially when similar shades are involved. There appears to be an attempt to use some muted color in the foreground leaves to establish them, but there is still no crisp separation. As digital presentation has light emitted rather than reflected, a print of this image would reveal even less separation.

I love dogs, and this one appears to be a great one. While the image seems to demonstrate an aggressive stance on the part of the dog, protecting his toy, the horizontal positioning of the dog in the frame mitigates this impression. Placement of the hindquarters back in the upper right corner of the image and allowing a little space in front of the dog and toy would serve to emphasize this story. While gestalt principles allow for completion of objects that pass out of a frame, there is also need to avoid cropping at awkward places between joints. If the dog is to be cropped, it would be better before the legs rather than at the foot joint.

In a photograph something has to be in focus. Perhaps this is a current image masquerading as an old daguerreotype print presenting an anachronistic view by including the present day electric lights and power lines, but it still has no focal point. The sweep of the rail wants to lead you somewhere but there is no place to go. The upper half of the image is a very bright sky. It draws the eye for the dark foreground, but then has nothing to say. With the faint could bank there is a potential for an ominous sky to match the foreground, but this is not acted upon.

This is a great shot. The depth of the image is established through sharp demarcations between the various layers(sailboat, beach, buildings, multiple rows of mountains and finally the clouds an sky). The eye is drawn across the image being led by the sailboat and the highlighted sky on the right. The ominous nature of the scene is enhanced by the randomly distributed highlights among the buildings.

Re: Ominous clouds over the Parliament

Appreciate your feedback Rollin. Incidentally this is not an HDR but one that was captured with a Nikon Coolpix Point and Shoot. Despite the image capture being a JPEG, I did push it beyond limits in post using 2 or 3 Levels and when I saw the artefacts, I decided to convert to grayscale using Silver Efex Pro 2, in the hope I could get away with murder! Nonetheless, it was hard to ignore Big Ben and put the clouds as the subject.
