Highway (Route) 66 runs from Chicago to Los Angeles and made famous by a song. On the still traversed original portions is the small town of Seligman, Arizona. It features places to eat such as the Road Kill Cafe and a number of wild colored stores to purchase souvenirs. And then you are right back into and onto the barren desert of the American West.
