Re: couple more Elk from saturdays hike
The first shot is awesome. Great lighting and nice position of the animal. Cool light on the antlers in the second shot, not so great positions.
Where did you shoot these?

Re: couple more Elk from saturdays hike
Nice job on these , james.
Perhaps, next time, use your focus dots. I noticed alot of extra space at the top, and the legs of the subject are clipped off. If you use one of the upper focus dots, you can compose the image alot better , without moving the camera. Just pick the dot, that gives the best composition.................move the focus to that dot.............and then you can concentrate on other things other than composition. Give it a try, makes a big difference.

Re: couple more Elk from saturdays hike
I know that there were elk in that part of the country back in history but never heard of it the 30 or so years I lived there. Did they re-introduce them?
EDIT: Googled it. Too cool that they are there again.

[QUOTE=jamn4ex;322331... I tried to pick a couple from a little later as the sun was filtering somewhat through the western treeline. [/QUOTE]
And I think that gives them a beautiful light. These are very good, I think.

I agree - the lighting of the antlers and the side of his face in #1 is spectacular!
It's a portrait.
