Some call them Roses
Out the other day, drove down a lane and in the corner of the field was a clump of Scotch Thistles. There was a nice blue sky with white clouds behind them that really set them off. It is not the best image in the world however I love the shape, texture and look of the plants against that sky. I shot is with a 17-35mm on my D600 up real close, I will be heading back up there in a day or so with a 150mm marco to get real up close and personal with these roses.
Cheers:
Allan

Re: Some call them Roses
There is something about thistles which always seems to make them difficult for me to photograph well.
You have some nice textures against a good sky there.
Recently I tried photographing some 6 ft Marsh Thistles but haven't looked at the shots yet; chiefly because I'm fairly certain they will just get ditched.

I like the perspective in this shot, Allan.

Great shot, Allan. You managed the DOF well, contrast of the sky with the thistles, and really nice vivid colors.
