Alas they are not likely to be under sail any time soon as they are very long way from a large open body of water. Although they are touted to be the most authentic reproduction of late 15th century caravels, travel on the Mississippi necessitate a diesel I will say that I have seen video of them travelling up the river and they really move! The builder had to deduce hull design from records of past voyages. There are no records detailing the actual design of the Nina and Pinta. Apparently, in order to move from point A to point B through ocean currents and known wind velocity, he was able figure out that the hull had to a certain draft, beam, and length. I am sure someone will correct me if my nautical terms are wrong. You will note there is no Santa Maria, apparently she was real pig on the water and the designer has no desire to build it.
