I think you're right. Gorgeous rich tones and the strong, close-in composition works really well, I think.

In all honesty, regarding the first 5 photos, this is the look that I had in my head before I pressed the button. So, for me, I don't see it as an issue/weakness with the images...just maybe an issue/weakness with my way of thinking
