lol I was titling this Ruby Throat & Rose but missed the shift key and hit the enter key ,so I guess ruby throat 7 will have to do. shot with my 50D 200mm iso 320 1/2000 sec at 2.8.
Please forgive my awkwardness trying to get used to windows 8 coming from xp.

A very attractive photo. Did the humming bird actually feed on the rose or was he (she?) just looking?

The hummingbird feeds at a feeder very close to the rose, I have manipulated the composition and brought the bird closer to the flower, By cropping 2 images and laying one over the other.

The difference in backgrounds due to shot settings rose was shot at iso 125 1/13 sec. f16.

Now in my defense. I have seen her check out the rose, of course she has flown over to my tripod to check it out too. When I realized she wasn't coming to the rose regularly, I decided to manufacture the shot.

An eye dropper and a bit of sugar water in the rose might do the trick. Once I was researching technique for humming bird shooting and read that somewhere. The whole task of shooting the buggers sounded like it took a lot more patience than I had at the time so I never tried it. Saving them for retirement

lol funny you should say that Terri, when I was courting my wife I bought her roses everyday. Then it became every couple weeks. Then it became every couple months. Now I cant remember the last time I bought my wife some flowers. (might not hurt for me to stop at the florist after work tomorrow) Heck I might get some for my wife too.

Nice, when I first opened it I saw the first picture naturally, and was looking for edits (I confess), but I didn't really see one and figured wow what a picture, then I saw the others and put it together before I read your caption. The reason I believed the shot the first time, was the shadow on the leaf, I thought it was the birds, many people forget about shadows when adding layers. I did realize that the shadow was there on the standalone leaf and flower pic after seeing it afterwords. But regardless, this was nicely done James.

Thanks Bob, I need to keep shadows in mind when doing this kinda thing.
I would rather succeed in tricking the bird to the flower or baiting it though, probably much less work. Thanks for viewing
