As noted with reference to an earlier inquiry regarding my sporadic appearance on this site of late (Christina S.), the situation I described has now happily resolved itself with my marrying Julia Lee Barclay on July 1st 2013 at City Hall in Manhattan. We are now the Barclay-Mortons.

Thanks to everyone for their kind wishes. Yes, I definitely kept the ColourChecker since this (along with tripods) is an item Julia and I can both use. Equipment purchase discussions should prove interesting, though, as she shoots with a Canon and I use a Nikon. Well, if we can still get together over that usually insurmountable difference, then it must indeed be true love (a fact which neither of us doubts for a moment).
