Sandbank in Prince Edward County
Got a nice sunset this evening, some motion in the water and found a piece of drift wood for some interest in the foreground.

Very nice Image overall. Personally I think the horizon is to close to the centre though. The colours are great though and I love the contrast between the warm of the sky and the cold of the sea. Well done.

Nice and simple. I like that.

I like the simplicity of the composition, too, Allan. The horizon seems to be slightly curved -- although that could be my multifocals.

Hi Allan - I always love your shots of the lake! Very nice colors. I think if you cropped out about half the sky you would have a panoramic type shot with a more pleasing aspect ratio and horizon line. Thanks for sharing it!

I also wondered about cropping. Firstly, off the top, as suggested by others, to move the horizon up, but also, secondly, at the left in order to put the driftwood more towards the edge. I wondered if it was too central at the moment?
The lighting is wonderful and I think the shutter speed works very well in terms of capturing and emphasising the mood and atmosphere.

Did you try some other compositions and angles that evening? An interesting subject and well worth playing around with at the time.
I do like this shot. Must agree about the crop however and I would play with it doing various crops. Try cropping as Donald suggested.

Hi Allan.
I like what Donald mentioned in his comment. I like the exposure timing that makes the water more silky.
I keep staring at the horizon trying to decide if it is natural looking or artificially enhanced in post processing. The water is dark immediately below the horizon and the sky is lighter immediately above the horizon.

A nice simple scene with great colors. I agree with prior comments that the upper and left portions of the frame don't really add anything to the image.

Ken: there is a 2 stop grad used to knock down the light and a 2 stop reverse grad holding back the sky. It was shot with a 16-35mm lens set at 17mm with the camera set about 18 inches from the ground so what you are seeing is the effect of that filter when used on a wide angle lens shooting at an distance horizon.

Great shot Alan - you must have been at a different part of Sandbanks that I was at (about this time last year) at sunset. Enough people were still tearing around the beach. I I couldn't have taken this shot without having been bowled over by them.

Beautiful. I also vote for a trial of cropping off the top and the left.

Manfred: I was farther up the road past the cut off for Richardson Beach and campground. The temperature was in the low to mid 20's only ever few people, only other shooter was a fashion shoot with a dancer along and in the water's edge.

Thanks Allan - I'll have a look next time I get down that way. We were planning to head down again this summer (we found a B&B in Bloomfield we really like), but things haven't worked out yet...
