These photos were taken at Brooks Falls in Katmai NP. There are two elevated viewing platforms. They aren't really what you would call "bear proof" but more to the point the bears know that people belong there so the bears don't feel threatened or get stressed while they are trying to feed in the river. The bears are focused on catching fish and interacting with each other. So much so that it is very difficult to get direct eye contact with the camera. When I look closely at all of the shots that I got with eye contact, the bears were actually looking in the direction of the camera but not at it. Humans on the platforms in this area have simply become part of the landscape as far as the bears are concerned. Now walking the mile or so each direction to get to the platforms and back is a little... more interesting
