Donald: I sent the slides to ScanCafe.com, an American company that probably would not be practical for you unless they have a European website and shipping point. The equipment they use is explained here.
That information about the equipment actually explains something I was wondering about. When I sent my 2000 or so slides to them more than a year ago, their website mentioned that they were using the Nikon 9000 scanners for 35mm slides. Now they apparently use Noritsu scanners and they explicitly praise them for their "tremendous sharpness." I was wondering why the sharpening settings that I used on the scans that I post-processed a couple years ago are way too aggressive for this most recent batch. (I instructed ScanCafe not to do any sharpening or any other post-processing that they would normally do.) This new information explains it.
