I'm also reminded of those old ads from mid-last-century showing the freedom of the open roads, normally advertising travel destinations.
You're exactly right, and it's why I left some visible signs of the car. When processing, I tried a crop with just the scenery, and it had a very strange effect, at least with me. I started thinking that it was dangerous-looking, and I knew what the shot was! With the bits of car framing it, it's clearly, "Look at the nice view seen from the car."

Here's a cropped version: I'm interested if others get the same feeling. I have an idea about it.

There is nothing wrong going on in this photo, for Texas.

I don't like the road, there is no shoulder to pull off, get out, set up a tripod, and take the time needed to shoot the scenery.

I like it and prefer not having the car within the field of view. The few times I tried shooting from the car has been snaps done with a pocket or phone camera. No intention of photographic art, just documenting something for future reference.

See, you blew my hypothesis. I thought those of us who drive on the right side of the road ("right" meaning both right-hand and correct ) would feel nervous, because to stand in that lane to take the picture requires being blind to traffic. Whereas those who normally drive on the wrong side would find it more pleasing.

    Apparently not.

    Rick,

Basing the photo on the apparent "photographer standing in the road", for the photo top be "published" you obviously survived, despite being blind to traffic. If the road is as straight behind you as long as it is in the photo, you have plenty of view and time to walk off the road as traffic approaches. Besides, your photo looks like a country highway with little traffic.

I have been shooting rural scenes which necessitated me standing in the road where there was a curve, I couldn't see traffic and traffic couldn't see me. The photo showed no sign of the aparent risk behind capturing the scene. My solution was to bring a friend possitioned in a location with a better view who would warn me of approaching traffic.

You could try to market it as The Last Image of a Stupid Photographer. But like the carpet places who have quarterly going-out-of-business sales, someone would probably notice after you did it a few times.

    Hello,

I have got another idea. Put your camera on a tripod as Rick did it. Connect the camera via USB to a notebook and use the camera timer software to shoot a picture for example every minute. I will try this on wednesday during my trip to Frankfurt.

    bye
