Hi Steve: I am a big fan of your hummingbirds! I have saved your tutorial post, and some day, I will work up the nerve to give it a try...
Thanks again, everyone, I apprediate all the awesome comments.
Just beautiful... nothing more needs to be said.
Hi Steve,
I tried your recommendations and had encouraging results capturing an immature male and female at my feeder. I will move it to a different location for better lighting and try again tomorrow. Do you normally use fill-in flash?
Paul S
Not always paul. I move my feeders around alot, and adapt to the new location. I find that if the feeder and hummingbird are in the shadows, and the background is bright, I can get better shutter speeds . (this is when I use fill flash----------mildly backlit)
If I have good light, and can front light with good shutter speeds, I will do it.
Shot #10, I waited for 2 hours, in bright overcast lighting. Ever so slight backlighting and pushed my exposure with no flash. Shutter speeds were 1/800s at ISO 1250 . Not enough to freeze the wings, but if you shoot a few shots, you'll get a good one.
Glad to hear you had good results. Hope to see some of your photos.
Wonderful, Steve!
