Lucky snap at the family reunion
We had a family reunion last weekend. This is our newest addition. He was put down on the floor of the garage (painted concrete) and I just snapped a shot and I think I got very lucky. The garage was poorly lit, the photo was quite underexposed, luckily I shoot RAW and was able to salvage. C & C welcome

Re: Lucky snap at the family reunion
Hi Debbie,
Certainly a nicely caught expression, uncluttered background and pretty good light quality (if not quantity).
I cannot see any EXIF data but suspect the focal length was fairly short, with subject quite close to the camera, which is on the verge of giving perspective distortion to the closest (to camera) parts of anatomy.
Hope that minor observation is helpful, but it should not detract from your beautiful shot that is way better than most baby snaps taken in similar situations, so well done.
Bet his Mum likes it!

Re: Lucky snap at the family reunion
Thanks for the feedback. Here is the exif: 1/250 f4.0 55m ISO 500. You are correct I was probably 4-5 ft away. Are you referring to his arms on the verge of distortion? Beleive it or not those lil sausage arms of his are the real deal...... He's quite a lump

Really a nice shot. Looks very close to a studio portrait. Nice job.

Either that or, the young man will grow up to have forearms the size of Popeye the Sailor
Great shot however!

Re: Lucky snap at the family reunion
I was obviously mistaken Debbie; 55mm isn't at all wide angle (especially if an AP-S body).
He must be as shown, with a slightly chunky build and large-ish head - I had/have one too

That is a wonderful image... better than lots of studio shots these days. My grandson was even chunkier at that age (he's skinny now). Good job.

He's gorgeous and your shot captures a real essence of a young man who is thinking about his mission - wonder what it was ???? we'll never know, but be proud of the photo (and the little man)
