Another beautiful shot, Steve. It appears to have the same background as #10 and is a very good color for these, IMO. Is this a piece of mat board? The clean background puts all attention on the bird and is very effective. The diffused backlighting reveals the hummer's shape and colors very well and looks very natural. (I think she would like this portrait) Another beauty!

Thank you paul, the background is grass. (same as #10) It is a little brighter than the hummingbird. (slightly backlit) When I expose for the humming bird, I over expose the grass a little bit and create this lime green color.
The stick, was placed near the feeder, for a perch. It was positioned so I could get the brighter grass for a background. Sometimes when you place a stick, and they don't want to use it (perch on something else), you have to coax them into it. I do this, by placing a pine branch over the area they want to perch, and usually they will change locations to your new branch.
Hi Steve,
I used your excellent tutorial and captured this little guy this morning. This is highly cropped. I have a long way to go but I'm encouraged. Nailing the focus was a problem because of a heavy, thick overcast. I'm out of practice shooting the big gun so it's my limitations and not the equipment. Practice will improve this. Thanks for sharing your experience and hints for shooting these wonderful little birds. I've never had much luck until I read your article.

The detail your getting with that doubler, Is nothing short of amazing!
