I have a question for your two questions. Andre, what were you trying to convey when you photographed this image?
Bruce
Hi Andre
It's a nice enough picture but there's no story leaping out at me. (That applies to most of my images too of course !). Perhaps you have in mind the contrast between the opulence of the boat and restaurants and the rather stark cliffs behind ?
On the other hand, your Daddy's Little Girl post does tell a happy story.
Dave
The story is very clear to me that it's a large boat tied up at a mooring with a couple of buildings and mountains in the background.
Does it work? If the answer to that question is directly related to how well the story is being told, yes, it works.
Is the story being told a compelling story? Not particularly.
Minor detail: The image is tilted slightly to the right.
Those rather stark cliffs, Dave, could have been put into a little more perspective:
I don't think I'm connecting with the crop, Andre, so it's not working for me. It's difficult to get away from Table Mountain when you're talking about CT, so for it to work as a story about the V&A Waterfront it either has to be there in all its glory or not really at all. The V&A Waterfront is a new redevelopment I think, so capturing the colonial style buildings is part of the story, but without seeing the modern day tourists dining and interacting with the environment it doesn't quite hit the mark IMO.
Thank you for all the comments. I do take note of every comment.
It is good to see the perspective of others and what people really wish to see in an image.
